Course Description
The course is primarily run at Shoreline Park, which overlooks the ocean, Santa Barbara City College and the harbor. The race has a wide start heading west toward the end of Shoreline Park. Runners will turn and head back past the start and down a long gradual hill to Leadbetter Beach. After turning they will head back up the hill past the start to complete a shorter loop. The course consists of a 2 mile loop and a 1 mile loop which ensures a spectator-friendly venue.
**Note: Spectators MAY NOT stand on the concretes paths in the park...the park is still open to local residents.

* Note: Each Girls' races will start three (3) minutes after boys
5:15 Open division race (COACHES!!)
Scoring
As you know, DPI is an individual, grade level, and team level competition. Customized DPI pins will be given to the top 20 finishers in each grade and a team plaque for the 1st and 2nd place will be awarded. Team scores are based on the THREE best places. The team that takes the sweepstakes trophy home for the year will be the one with the lowest combined team scores from their best THREE grades. **To qualify for the sweepstakes you must have a team entered in each division. Results will be announced about 10 minutes after the last race (5:45ish).
The fastest three runners from each grade per school are scored by their place in each race.
Therefore, there will be a 1st place trophy and a runner-up trophy awarded for the 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th grade boys' and girls' team based on the lowest score for their top three finishers.
Awards:
Individual awards are given to the top 20 finishers in each race. Athletes compete against other students in their grade for division trophies, but the points of top finishers are also added and an overall boys' and girls' team sweepstakes champion is crowned. Both the division trophies and the perennial trophies will be given out at the awards ceremony at approximately 5:45PM . It's a short ceremony, so please plan to stay for it!
